So long as you know how the system works, then you're not being fooled. ;):)

Some people actually believe they are only getting their power from renewables though, they are the ones being fooled.
I would say the people being fooled are the ones on green tariffs from the big energy suppliers. They could use creative figures and not actually spend any money on renewables.

You could say that about anything.

True, but but to different extents and energy suppliers seam to be mostly just number crunchers.

True, but you seem to be implying that they can do whatever they want, such as lie about what makes up their energy share, and get away with it.

My view, is that anyone can lie, but if the energy suppliers were lying about what share of their energy production was from renewables, then firstly they would get caught, and secondly they would be heavily fined.

I don't believe the companies would be stupid enough to do that, for the sake of making a few extra pence over an all green tariff.

My guess is that the number of people selecting an all green tariff, is actually very low, because people just don't have that much money to waste. Feel free to prove me wrong.

Well the kind of figures we are talking about are very complicated and confusing so its not as easy as black or white to spot a miss sale. So many loopholes and all large businesses will do all they can to legally maximise profits.
  • Only just seen this thread. I replaced my condenser combi last winter. It cost me £1180. If I had put in a Worcester it would've been £1900 approx but I chose an Ideal Logic, which have excellent reviews. Ideal had some real problems three years or so ago which caused their reputation to plummet, but the new generation are good. So the sums quoted above seem excessive. I even had mine moved from an outhouse into the kitchen. I live in the south too, so not the northern cost of living.
