Cold-call from Spendrite UK

Hi

Hope this is the right forum for this - I looked around and this seemed the most appropriate.

Does anyone know about this company? They have been pestering me from an international phone number for days and I finally decided to find out who they were and what they were offering. The company is Spendrite UK and they are apparently offering a discount card called Countdown Card. After going through questions about how much I spend and where (which I was very vague about), they were upfront to say that the card would cost £98 for a year, and that based on the info I'd given, I would certainly make that back and more in savings.

I've searched the web for both spendrite and countdown card and can find some info, but never see anyone saying whether the card is worth it or where it can be used, to make any judgement as to whether it's worth it... or maybe it's just another too good to be true offer??

The mere fact that they have to resort to cold calling to get members would tell me all I needed to know - AVOID.

For these types of offers, in order to make a profit the company would need to know that the £98 you pay would be less than you would save - maybe through apathy not using it or offers not being available. Or they get some sort of commission for you using the card at their partner retailers.

I've no idea if this is a legit co or not but there are mainstream providers who provide cashback credit cards (usually for a fee) maybe look at the Santander 123 card. (Pay your balance each month!)

The countdown card has been going for 40ish years. I was a member during the 70s and found very little of use. Like most of these schemes there are usually deals equal to or better than the ones on offer if you shop around online.

Spendrite Lackey (SL): *hopefully gives their name*
You: Okay, the question is: what is my favourite cheese?
SL: *hopefully names a type of cheese*
You (whatever they say): Congratulations! That's the (pause) right answer! You've won our star prize - 1 billion tons of cheese

Hopefully they'll hang up then, you'll get a good laugh and they may delete your number as being a nutter
