Elderly Mum and Call Barring Scam? Can you help

My elderly Mum has just paid £49.99 to a company who said that they can stop her unwanted calls!
She thought they said £4.99 and still went ahead and gave them her Debit Card number!
She has had a letter but she cant find it but she did notice the address was on a sitcky label with a first class stamp and it wasnt franked mail as you would expect from a company
So I cannot find their name.

Does this sound familiar to anyone??

Perhaps they have sold her a Call Blocker device.

Like this one shown here http://www.cprcallblocker.co.uk/

Or the other possibilty she has subscribed to something similar to these people.

Does she not have a 2 week cooling off period to cancel it, and the invoke a chargeback via the bank if no refund forthcoming?
I advise my mother to use Credit card for ALL remote purchases, easier to lever on the seller.

I should keep a close eye on her credit card payments - if it's a 'service' there's the possibility it will be a recurring charge. Have a word with her CC company to see if they can give any advice.

I think you will find that she has simply paid them £50 to register her with the TPS-which either you or she can do direct for nothing.
No free lunch, and no free laptop ;)

Maybe so, but I wouldn't trust an outfit that called me out of the blue, persuaded me to part with £50 to register for something I could do for free!

There have been/are many of these scams that take repeat payments for allegedly one-off payments.
