Hi all

I've not posted on here before, I am hoping someone will be able to help me.

I want to make a button wreath, not one of those polystyrene ones, but a fabric one with buttons sewn on.

I need to sew an O shape in fabric, I am not sure how do do this :o as where do I leave to gap to turn it inside out? would it be better to cut it to make a circle shaped tube and then sew the ends together?

Failing that I might just use felt so I can sew on the outside but you can get lovely christmas fabrics that would be ideal for it.

EDIT : Something like these
http://www.pinterest.com/pin/53972895504417826/ but looks like they have used felt and sewn on the outside so that might be the only way to do it?

Thanks

I think I would make the ring - like a cushion, inside out. Turn it right side out, sew the buttons on to one side by hand and pack with stuffing. I think you'd be able to leave a fairly small hole, depending on the size of your buttons I guess. Maybe have a practice run with a small one? I like the idea of them though, very sweet :)

However, don't really like how they've sewn them on Pinterest. I think it would look much better with the seams inside.

I may be overcomplicating it in my mind, but I don't think a ring shape will turn inside out properly if you sew one full circle and leave a small gap in the other - I haven't tried it, but my mind says no. I do stand to be corrected of course!

I think the felt idea is great though as you can sew neatly on the outside. I also think these look lovely and would be great scaled down as Christmas tree decorations.

A lovely way to use up my stash of odd buttons (mostly the spares from new clothes) and the ribbons that I cut off from the inside of clothes (the ones they put on to stop them falling off the hangers) - I can't bring myself to throw them away!

In recenty years I have bought a few clothes from White Stuff and they often come with a tag with 3 little cute buttons sewn on to it (different colours and shapes). Needless to say I have kept them all - I obviously have a slight addiction too.

Definintely going to try the button wreath idea though.

Just had a little browse and came across these button baubles too - might compliment the wreaths nicely:

  • You could make the ring by cutting across the width of it (almost like a full circle c) and sewing around both the inside and outside. That should make a tube which would turn out, be stuffed and then hand sewn together iykwim?
  • You could always use a polystyrene one and then wrap fabric around it and sew the buttons on top after.
