I think you're unlikely to get a laptop that will play those games (on decent settings) for £500. The next gen consoles are only going to cost about that, so a PC will most likely be significantly more.

    Is that your absolute budget?

    Good luck anyway!

Some people on Google say yes but not at high settings.

Apparently it's more tailored to HD video playback than gaming.

You have to realise that laptops are not designed for gaming. Because of the small form factor and limited power supply, manufacturers have to significantly limit every laptop they make in various ways. This means using dedicated lower-powered and underclocked CPUs and GPUs, both of which will affect gaming performance.

Not only that, but laptop power bricks are seldom powerful enough to run a laptop at full power by themselves, and almost always use the battery to provide supplemental power. The upshot of this is that even the best laptops will only run a 3D game with reasonable graphics until the battery gives out.

Now, you want a laptop with a touchscreen, and this further impacts the level of gaming performance you can expect. Whatever money a manufacturer may have put into increasing gaming performance will have been reduced to put some towards equipping the device with a touchscreen—thereby lowering performance further.

Add to this that you want to play two of the newest games released for the PC platform (one of which is part of a series notorious for having high system requirements) and things should be becoming clear.

The best thing you can do is either: raise your budget; get a dedicated gaming desktop PC; or scour the review websites religiously until you find one that covers the notion of Far Cry 3/GTAV on current laptops, and see which one comes out on top.

    Good luck :)

The answer is no, basically. They may run, but they'll run really badly.

I spent £750 on a Laptop 3 years ago, and at the time it did OK with high end titles like Crysis 2, Metro 2033 and Deux Ex Human Revolution. However, I did not buy it expressly as a gaming laptop, I only really wanted to be able to play Minecraft and some flight sims on the move.

One of the key problems is laptops have high resolution screens now, and don't have the Graphics grunt to drive those resolutions with the effects and filtering needed to get games looking really good.

£500 won't buy you a new laptop that will play games.
As close as you'll get is keeping a close eye on the Dell Refurbished outlet shop online, and seeing if you can pick up a refurbished XPS or even Alienware model.

If £500 is really all you ahve, and gaming is a must, then either get a PS4 or Xbox One, or spec up a mid range desktop which should just about be able to play games for £500, if you have a case, keyboar and mouse knocking about. You'll have to specify and probably build it yourself though.

Sorry Jamos, but not a chance. As has been said you will have power and overheat issues with the top end games if you can even get them to run.

Even an average desktop would have problems running the likes of GTAV when it comes out and I myself would not be able to have the highest settings and my computer is no slouch!

There is a discussion going on in the gaming board upon peoples gaming computer builds, you would do far better asking there for advice on building something that can handle those games.

  • This is basically impossible unless you build one yourself, you would really need something high-end closer to the £1000 plus mark and would probably have to forgo the touchscreen

Agree with everything said so far.
Can we go back to the start...
What are your requirements? Don't say "I want a laptop", but tell us what you need a computer for.
    If you're priorities are:
    1. Play games
    2. Surf the internet
Then that's a different type of computer to one where your requirements are
    1. Create spreadsheets and presentations
    2. Run database software
    3. Manage a business

So, list your requirements without mentioning what machine you want.
    1. Have you tried to Google the answer?
    2. If you were in the other person's shoes, how would you react?
    3. Do you want a quick answer or better understanding?

Well GTAV hasn't got a release date for PC, so I wouldn't be worried about playing that as it might well be a year before it makes an appearance.
