EON Energy want copy of tenancy agreement...

  • Hi Morganarla

Sounds like there may be a discrepancy somewhere down the line that's caused us to ask for proof of occupancy.

As others have said, this could involve debt from a previous tenant but it could also be something else. It may be that the dates or the meter readings you've given us don't match what we already have.

There may be a third party involved like a previous tenant or landlord/letting agent. If the details you've given us don't match what we already have then, setting up your account, could have a knock on effect for a third party.

For instance, if we start your billing from a different meter reading to that already provided by someone else, we'll then re-bill this other party accordingly.

This will cause them to question what we're doing, particularly as it's over 4 months since responsibility for the property changed.

To make sure we're doing what's right for all concerned, we sometimes ask for sight of a Tenancy Agreement.

I do understand your reluctance to let us see a document that contains private information unconnected with the electricity supply. I'd suggest, therefore, blanking out the bits that are of no concern to us.

I'm not saying any of the above relates to your particular case but it's certainly something I've come across before. Usually, where everything follows on, there's no need to ask for further documentation.

Hope this explains why we may have asked for sight of the Tenancy Agreement.

You took 4 months to call them to register for your deemed account, and now you're complaining because they asking you to prove your actual date of occupation?
    Am I missing something?
