Worktop dishwasher anyone?

Having been washing up manually since last November when I moved and found my slimline dishwasher wouldn't fit in my new kitchen :( I'm considering getting a worktop one. As far as I am aware they are a bit rubbish so was wondering if anyone had one and can tell me they are worthwhile please?

Have considered putting the slimline one on worktop but don't think that will work :(

Have seen these in action well you can't put a lot in them and they seem to be more trouble than they are worth.

Just use paper plates and chuck 'em once you're done.

  • Are there any other appliances that can be raised to sit on the worktop to create a hole for the dishwasher? Fridge / freezer / tumble dryer or whatever?

How many of there are you? The worktop ones don't have a large capacity.

  • I had a Zanussi counter top dishwasher years ago and loved it. Yes, you can't get a lot in them, but they really are useful.

Now that there are 5 of us (6 at the moment FIL staying with is), I would not cope without a full size dishwasher, but when it was just DH and I (and then later DD1), the small one was perfect.

Not sure about the ones you can now get - have only seen Bosch. One thing I would say if you do get one, it is more economical to use powder than tablets because you use half the amount you would in a full size, whereas with tablets, you can't halve the tablet so actually end up spending more money.

We bought a Currys Essentials one last month for about £80 and it's great. There are 3 of us - we run it every day for plates, cups, glasses and cutlery, and wash the rest of the stuff by hand. It's not especially tall so certain oblong items have to go in sideways, but I think it's well worth it.

Unfortunately not and the nearest place I could put it is about 4 metres away from the water outlet. Have considered taking out a cupboard, but there aren't many and it would mean taking out 2. There is just me and my teenage son most of the time.

  • We have a countertop dishwasher and it's perfect for just the two of us. Hubby is mad on his protein shakes and eats a LOT and we manage to cram everything in that we need. :)

We are two adults and two young children. Our kitchen is teeny, so we can only fit a worktop dishwasher in (under the sink!). It's perfect for us and can fit most of a day's washing up in it. It also means that when we have visitors I don't dread the huge pile of washing up that will be created.

Wow, that's a fab idea putting it under the sink, very clever :T
