Boiler service and 3 port valve replaced

Options
Hello - we want to get the boiler serviced and a 3 port valve replaced.

Right now we can't have hot water without the central heating coming on and vice versa so can't have one without the other hence the need for 3 port value fixed. Have been told this is the part I'd need but a quick online search seemed to come up with heaps of prices from around £50 - well over £100 for a 3 port valve.

Am in process of getting quotes to get the job done but wondered if anyone has rough idea up front of how much I should be expected for boiler service (wall boiler not combi) plus 3 port valve replaced?

Service quotes alone seem to be around £90.

Thanks for any thoughts/help!

is the lever on the valve in the correct position

have you tried turning the power off for a second, the head may be stuck

if you turn off or isolate the power from the 3 port head unit, and unscrew the metal cover only, then power back on, you should be able to see the cogs move or attempt to move when you switch heating/water/both etc on - it's live electricity under the cover, so don't poke anything in while the mains is switched on

£60 + VAT for a boiler service and around £150 + VAT for a new 3 port valve, supplied and fitted, as a guide for you.

Check with the Gas Safe Registered company/person what they will carry out in the service.

Often, they simply check the emissions from the flue and empty the condenstate trap. This is a check rather than a service. This is what many of the larger companies such as British Gas and AA do. It can be misleading.

A full service would be as per the manufacturers guidelines. Usually inspecting the heat exchanger and dismantling & cleaning if necessary, replacing the gasket seals. As well as the other items including those carried out during a check.

Do you know the three port valve needs replacing in its entirety for certain? It may be just the head needs doing. It may be that there is just some carp in the valve body which can normally be released by manual operation after removing the head.

What is the make/model of your existing valve?

What are the symptoms leading you to believe that the whole thing needs replacing?
