Connection and keyboard problems

For some while now I have been having odd problems with my PC. When I type, I often find keyboard focus is lost, which means the text no longer appears on screen. And at the same time the wifi connection is lost. So I have to click in the window with the mouse to get back focus, and reconnect. Anyone know what is happening?
I use Vista on a PC with a password protected talk talk wifi connection. Oh, and Firefox 23.0.1. I have a feeling it is an issue with Firefox.

If the keyboard focus is lost when the wi-fi disconnects, could it be that the network connection status message gets the focus...? In other words, if you fixed the wi-fi issue, the keyboard might not lose focus any more...?
Can you move your router or re-align the aerial, or move your PC (or the wi-fi adapter) any closer to each other? Have you tried using software like InSSIDer to ensure that you are using a wi-fi channel without too much interference? Some routers have automatic channel selection (which doesn't always work too well) -- you may be better setting the channel manually.

I've also seen a few problems with Windows Vista & 7 machines that don't use a static local IP address. If you go into the router settings and assign a fixed IP to your PC (in the DHCP settings), and then manually specify that IP address in your Windows network settings, does that help at all...?0 -
I did wonder about a connection dialog, but I haven't seen one pop up. I have a good wifi signal according to the little toolbar widget, confirmed by the inssider tool.Warning: This forum may contain nuts.0

Do you have any wireless devices or motors nearby that might be interfering with the signal? I got a "video sender" (to wirelessly transmit an image from one TV to another). My wireless network kept dropping out and the router would crash periodically. It took me ages to track the problem down.
Otherwise, I'd try setting a static IP address on the PC and via the DHCP settings in the router to see if that helps. Technically it shouldn't... but experience tells me that that has fixed "mysterious" disconnections/reconnections in Windows before...0 -
I don't have any other wireless devices ... except a HP printer. Mmmm. that is the only new variable in the equation. I think you might have found the cause.Warning: This forum may contain nuts.0

I would eliminate the mouse and keyboard first. Get a cheap mouse, then run the onscreen keyboard (start, run, osk.exe)0

I'm pretty certain it is the printer. When the wifi connection was off, my PC was fine, when it was turned on, the keyboard and connection went wonky.Warning: This forum may contain nuts.0
