I couldn't face this last night so tried this morning. I couldn't see exactly the file to restore, or exactly where to restore it to, so rather than make things worse, I started a complete C drive restore from Acronis archive.

Took almost 3 hours but its up and running again so thank you!

Its much slower than before. Is that normal?

the where (apart from the added space between system and 32 due to the mse posting bug) is quoted in this thread several times

should be the same speed as it was at the time of backup, apart from windows updates

you may wish to backup your other machine too, macrium reflect free does the same thing for nothing

I know 'the where' was quoted, but I couldn't see a file which said just that, whereas there were several called System:o

When its finished security updates I'll check if there's anything there which I had uninstalled since last backup & uninstall it again (if that makes sense)

there could only be one called system in that directory, but there may have been a system.old, which (if renamed) to system would also have probably cured the problem
