Faulty Circuit Board on Cooker Hood?

We have a Falcon Cooker hood, four years old which has developed a strange intermittent fault.
The two halogen lights have been switching on and off randomly whether the extractor fan is on or off, (extractor and timer all in full working order). The lights flashing on and off gradually got more and more regular to the point it was so bad that we have had to disconnect the power when not using it.
The technical at Falcon said it will be the pcb at fault, a new board is £221+ vat + postage
Now, the power has been left connected to it over the last 24 hours (by accident really) and the fault has not appeared yet, but I've no doubt it will at some point. My question really is, if the pcb is at fault, why isn't it doing it now? It seems to have healed itself or at least improved-how is that possible?

The lights in a cooker hood are generally wired independently to the fan switch.
You mention a timer? Is this some special type of cooker hood...does it have a disco lights functionIf my post hasn't helped you, then don't click the 'Thanks' button!0 -
When was it last cleaned and I mean properly cleaned? Greases and such like encrusted contacts/connectors and tracks?

The cooker hood is regularly cleaned anyway but everything was stripped down and cleaned thoroughly when it first started 'flashing'. The pcb itself is in a sealed box on its own with just cables going to and from. The switch buttons for the light, fan setting and timer are enclosed as well, separately.0

Is there anywhere that can test a pcb to make sure that a replacement would solve the problem?0

yes the factory that made it.
