ceiling light that doesn't stick out

at the moment i have a standard energy saving bulb in the small hall-way between the front door and inner door. the ceiling is quite low as it's a porch and the bulb sticks out a bit too much, easy to hit your head on if you're tall. is there another type of fitting/bulb i could get that would sit closer to the ceiling?

I'm guessing you have a pendent holder at the moment:



You can replace it with a fixed bulb holder instead:

hi its already got the fixed fitting, its just the length of the bulb is a bit much... i think i need a new fitting that is more flush with the ceiling?

You can fit a halogen bulb instead:

It shouldn't protrude as much as an energy saving CFL. If you buy the golf ball size ones, then it'll be smaller than a standard bulb.

that would certainly help, i will have a look for a golf ball style bulb, as your link the fitting is a bayonet twist type one. thanks for the help.
