Vivien of Holloway Bridesmaid dress.

Bit of background. My little sister is getting married next month. A few months ago she found the bridesmaid dresses she wanted from the Vivien of Holloway website. They arrived, but mine had a hole in and some loose threads and the other one had lots of dirty marks on it. My sister contacted them and they said if we sent them back they would send out new ones. We did this, new ones arrived about a month ago and we checked them for faults. No problems. My sister took one back home with her (she lives about 300 miles away) for the other bridesmaid and I've kept mine to get the straps altered.

I've been meaning to get it altered for a while, but due to moving house it's just been moved to the bottom of the priority list. Finally got round to it today, tried it on for alterations and thought...i've either put on 2 stone in weight or this isn't the right size. Checked the label, and it they've sent the wrong size.

It is 6 weeks til the wedding so my sister was in a bit of a panic. Tried phoning the shop all day but the line was engaged, the website showed only one left in stock of the size I was supposed to have. In desperation she bought it for an additional £80 and is hoping to be able to return the dress that is the incorrect size for a full refund, as if she had exchanged them anyway. Do you think she will be able to do this given that it has been a while since the dress was sent out to us? It hasn't been worn, has all labels and whatnot. Surely due to the fact it was their mistake they should do this for us? They are hardly losing money, she has bought another one from them anyway....

They are on Facebook so if you can't get hold of them on the phone send them a message or post on their page there, they are very active and post there several times a day.

I don't the wrong size thing was deliberate, so they will probably try to help you resolve things. That said, you've had the dress rather a long time now, in court it could be argued that you had accepted the goods, so work seeing how far you can get on goodwill and keeping the shop on your side.
  • Yeah it's the time passed that is concerning me, but we have bought another one so surely they can see we do still want and love the dress and aren't trying to pull a fast one. I will tell my sister to write on their facebook page then, she has all the order numbers and everything.

It's just been hectic. Obviously trusted them to send the right size back and because of the hassle the first time round being about faults on the dress we inspected every inch of the dress for any material problems and didn't even think about the size.

  • Hopefully they'll help you out and agree to the refund, being they were at fault, but if they refuse VoH dresses tend to sell very well on Ebay - you'll be able to get back at least 90% of the purchase price that way, I would suspect.

  • Update: She heard back from them today, they are happy to give her a full refund once I send the dress back. Popping it back in the post today. Thrilled it's all going to be ok! :)

Now hopefully the next new one will be the right size AND in good condition...
