Anyone put their extra freezer upstairs?

In my OHs house the main freezer is upstairs due to no room in freezer/hall way etc. Works fine.Paid off the last of my unsecured debts in 2016. Then saved up and bought a property. Current aim is to pay off my mortgage as early as possible. Currently over paying every month. Mortgage due to be paid off in 2036 hoping to get it paid off much earlier. Set up my own bespoke spreadsheet to manage my money.0

If you're worried about leaks, you could always stand it on an off-cut of lino. We can't fit our fridge in the kitchen so it has to go in the sitting room, and this is what I've done. We've never had a problem with leaks but it's reassuring and makes it easier when defrosting.0

Thanks all for the reassurance.
One more question, how do you defrost the thing without the floor getting soaked? My kitchen fridge freezer is on tiles and right by the back door.
I suppose i should get a "no frost" one....yep!0 -
I`ve got a small chest freezer in the spare room of Doom. Can`t see any problem with it, it`s the rest of the carp in the room that`s the problem!0

We have a table top freezer in our garage. I would have no problem with putting this freezer in our bedroom. I actually defrosted it today. It dosn't defrost quick enough to have water running out of the freezer.
I don't think you need to worry about leaks, why should it leak?0 -

My chest freezer is in a room with carpet. I defrost it with bowls of boiling water to loosen the ice and scrape the ice off with a freezer ice scraper I bought from Lakeland. I collect all the ice/water in a bowl and tip it down the sink. I have never removed the drain plug and so never get water on the carpet.
My upright freezer I defrost in a similar way but put lots of towels down in front of it to soak up the wet. I find putting a second bowl in it empty helps to collect some of the dripping water too.0 -

They come with a drain plug?! Who knew?
I've always mopped/wiped/scraped into a bowl and poured away. Quite often but some sort of low sided recepticle (grill tray is current favourite, have used baking trays in the past) tucked under the front to catch any drips or spillage while I'm doing it.
We currently have a spare freezer in the storeroom-that-will-be-a-bathroom-just-as-soon-as-we-find-somewhere-to-store-everything room. We're in a bungalow but would just as happily put it upstairs once we get the loft conversion finished.0 -
Were you to wonder about the weight of a loaded freezer, siting it against a wall, across joists, strengthens your position.
We use the low edged baking trays when defrosting the freezer, tucked under & lined with teatowels. Wringing out teatowels into a bucket is the messiest aspect.
All the best!0 -

Yes I use the baking trays plus towels in for defrosting the existing fridge freezer. But it always ended up a bit of a mess TBH. Not my favourite job!
One day I decided to put the towels on the floor of the freezer and also in the tray, and it works much better. By the time I wring out those on the bottom of the freezer, the towels in the baking tray are ready! But i use the steam cleaner thing to defrost it, and its mighty quick!
Just a little tip.0 -
I use a couple of those hold 10 times water chammy looking cloth things I got ages ago in the pound shop and just keep wringing them out, they do hold quite a lot of water and dry quickly. Just chuck them in the hellhole under the sink once dry.0
