Travel up and ATOL??

Hi MSErs,
Just about to buy flights through travel up. I have seen some reviews saying the service is not that great through them, but they are £200 cheaper than other companies.
I am dithering about booking though because if they go bust, will I get the 3.5k i'm about to give them, back?
They are ATOL protescted, although they try to levy an extra charge for this at the booking stage.
I can pay on CC (£75 extra) but I have read on this site, that I would not be covered for flights booked through an agent, not booked direct with the airline.
Any advice please?

If the service is rubbish, why risk it. Pay cheap, pay twice.0

I am not sure if you are covered by ATOL if you only buy the flights as it used to be that you had to book flights and accommodations
I have got my money back from visa before as i wasnt covered by ATOL, but if you are covered you usually have to get your money back that way
If you do book flight only make sure you get your tickets issued straight away and that the company are not keeping you money and intend to buy tickets at a later date etc0 -
I agree with the above poster, im not sure if you're ATOL protected when booking flight only anyway.
Are travel up cheaper than booking direct with the airline? Also consider that if there are any schedule changes etc it may cause issues having to go through travel up for everything rather than deal with the airline.0 -
Just an update to say Travelup were fine, I went on my holiday no probs (although it was Malaysia Airlines, so I did wonder if we would disappear).
I discovered that to be protected by ATOL you need to book more than 1 thing, so I booked flights and parking (thence a package!) from same agent.0 -
Actually just a note on schedule changes, Travelup didn't advise us of a time change of the BA sector. It was only because I insist on being everywhere mega early, that we just made flight (by skin of our teeth as brought forwards 3 hours!) that DID put a few stress lines on my face a grey hairs on my head!
