Don't think POs provide that service.
There are various companies that do provide a cheque cashing service and will cash a HMRC cheque with suitable ID. They charge you for the service naturally.0 -
.....or if he has a trustworthy friend
or relative who would be happy to receive the payment on his behalf and pay it over once cleared he can return the cheque to HMRC and give them a nominee name and bank account details.
However, I think this can take 6 weeks❤️Mum 2018

Why do people always say 'Get a bank account'?
Has anybody (not in the Glasgow area) ever tried to open an account with a poor credit record and no fixed address?
It just isn't possible.
Some of us aren't so fortunate that we can just pop down to the local bank armed with reams of paper tying us to a property.
(And, no, not all homeless are unwashed, illiterate, alcoholic, junkies!)
So, if you've no account, for whatever reason, you've got little option but to harangue the issuer to reissue the cheque in a mate's name or pop down to your local cheque cash service (who will most likely turn you away without evidence of a fixed address)0 -
TBH I don't agree with anything you have said. Why do people always say 'Get a bank account'?

I had poor credit, it still isn't great, but over the years I've managed to open accounts with Santander, Natwest, Halifax, and HSBC.
Many of the banks now do basic accounts which don't need a credit check and which only provide basic services- i.e. no cheque book, no debit card, no overdraft.
There are also credit unions where you would be able to deposit the cheque.
Especially in a world where most peoples salaries are paid by bank transfer, as a re most benefits, a bank account is no longer a luxury, it is a necessity.[SIZE=-1]To equate judgement and wisdom with occupation is at best . . . insulting.
