I get my nan large print books now and she is around that age
She doesn't get to the library or to a bookshop much. I get them on amazon - sometimes take a while as think they order them in0 -
+1 for a photo book - mum goes through it with gran every week, remembering names & faces, places, holidays and almost all the good times we captured on film0

I've bought my gran DVDs of old films recently, Roman Holiday that kind of thing, they have gone down really well.
A nice brooch?0 -
presents we have given in the past are a hand knitted cardigan, photo mug, throw to keep warm when having afternoon nap. nighties and dressing gown for hospital visits/ or visiting family. Bottles of sherry or mulled wine. Amrilas bulbs are also nice as she can watch them grow and then flower - a real talking point. The secret to success is making very small, yet constant changes.:)0

I was going to suggest a magazine subscription.
How about some pretty spring bulbs, buy a few like crocus, daffodils, hyacinths and plant in pretty terracotta pots, so she can dot them about the house and look forward to Spring.
If she is able to get about, how about a few pots, compost and some seeds? could have some herbs or tomato plants for indoors, or some sweet peas or poppies to scatter outside. My lovely Mum is 78 and is really into her garden and grows loads of lovely flowers and veg.:hello:

What about a life story book. All you need is an A4 folder and fill it with details from their lives, i.e. streets/towns they lived in - go to libraries or archives and search for photos of places they would remember, same with the churches they got christened/married in etc. Same for places they worked, if they were in the forces etc. etc.
I did a family tree for my uncle when he was in his eighties, he told me years later that he would frequently get it out and leaf through it. It does not need to cost a lot, but can involve a lot of work.0
