Nervous about job

I'm starting a new job on monday as the head of department for 25 odd people in a specialisation I've never worked in.....and I am sh1tting it!!

I'm actually shocked at myself as to how nervous I am.

Well done on your new job :T.

You won't have been the only applicant, so whoever appointed you chose you. You've obviously got something to offer.

If you are most concerned about lack of experience in the speciality, it sounds as if your job is actually more managerial, and that's a transferable skill. Focus on that and the specialist knowledge will come.

Any new job is daunting, especially before you start, but it does get easier. No one will expect you to know everything. I'd be more concerned if you though you did ;).

Good luck when you start. Try to see it as an exciting challenge, the start of something good.
    . . .I did not speak out

    Then they came for me
And there was no one left
    To speak out for me..

  • Nerves are good... they show you care and they stop you being over-confident.

Be yourself - don't be afraid to ask for help and trust in the fact that you can do it... they wouldn't have selected you if they didn't think you had what it takes.

In what ways are they odd? :)

You'll be fine, there will be helpful ones amongst them, and people skills are transferable across specialities.
:heartsmil When you find people who not only tolerate your quirks but celebrate them with glad cries of "Me too!" be sure to cherish them. Because these weirdos are your true family.

I'm sure it'll be fine, but you know how it is, the 1st day is always the worst, and nobody likes to be the new guy. Especially the new boss.
