Tomtom start 25
This is the device, bought last Sunday in London, satisfactorily used back here[East Anglia].
TOMTOM START 25 WEU, WITH FREE LIFETIME MAPS
I have now connected it to computer for the 1st time - took over 6 hours to load and install updates, now says 'connected' but also 'something has gone wrong with your navigation device.'
'Click here for help' gives this:
https://uk.support.tomtom.com/app/answers/list
[have logged out for purpose of this post, but page is identical]
It does not help - when I submit my serial no. it just returns to start page.
I cannot find help, do not know what is failing.
No phone help iover w/e: SayNo no. 020 7387 5444
I have absolutely nil experience with these things, but am driving over 1000 miles, starting early Wednesday. I love maps/map-reading, driving, but thought of this as a useful add-on, after getting caught in last Friday's Dartford Crossing bomb alert. Missed a concert, moved 15.4 miles in over 7 and a half hours:mad:
Any help please?

Have you not tried to use the "contact us" link?
I'd make sure you've also set up an account and registered your device.0 -
It should not have taken 6 hours!
The first thing to try is a reboot:
All settings are kept.
Press and hold the power button for approximately 15 seconds until you hear a drum roll sound.
Wait until the navigation screen is displayed. Blue text on this forum usually signifies hyperlinks, so click on them!..:wall:0 -
Did it make a backup before installing new updates? Normally there is a prompt to do so. If so then restore the backup. The man without a signature.0

Would this be why?

No time now, but will try later if this is advised.

Some very knowledgeable peeps on either, can often fix problems that TT themselves can't solve.0 -
Now back.
Unfortunately molerat, it won't allow me, despite having confirmed my registration on the forum. I posted !, saw 'Sent: 1' but it's nowhere to be found. I keep being asked the device serial no. as if attempting to register again.
At this point, when entering email, I'm told this is already registered to a.n.other ...i.e. me.
Having spoken to Mr T techie no., took all back to local-ish superstore and they think the problem lies with the free lifetime maps update being valid only between 24/12/12 and 31/07/13.
However, dates are not apparent until the package is undone and the tight sticky plastic pocket dismembered and tiny pull-out leaflet scrutinised. Further, it was a featured selling point at Surrey Quays branch, with extra signage and 'exclusive to Tesco'.
Mr T says it's a tomtom issue, as they w/d offer-relevant stock with date limits.
So, I'll try tomtom on Mon. If no joy, Mr T refund.
In fairness, young man and 2 others said they'd install this free if poss., but they have no way of doing so.CAP[UK]for FREE EXPERT DEBT &BUDGET HELP:

The free lifetime maps update has been extended until 31 Dec 2013 but you need to register within 30 days of purchase - more here:doh: Blue text on this forum usually signifies hyperlinks, so click on them!..:wall:0 -
I've become a vocal opponent of TomTom. Garmins are not as slick but work far better. With my current TomTom I've not purchased map updates or renewed my live services subscription because TomTom keep releasing updates that screw up the unit. First it wiped 6 digit postcode input and I spent hours researching for a fix and 7-8 hours restoring the backup. Then the next software update bricked the voice commands and I still have no voice commands. I now use it as a spare unit. The man without a signature.0
