Hi just need a bit of advice,my other half has been called for jury service and has had to ring an automated phone number which said his juror no is not needed but to ring again Monday.the thing is who pays the loss off wages his work have had to get agency workers to cover him so he can't go in now as too short notice and now the court doesn't want him Monday so how do we claim for loss of wages cos his employer won't pay him.Hes tried ringing the phone numbers to get advice but surprise suprise no answer, this is going to lead to financial difficulty as he's been out of work for 8 months and has only recently started a new job.

  • The above was for Scotland... just in case you are in England or Wales...

This has a table showing what you can claim:

Here are some contact details, including an email address, for a central team:

    :hello:
  • I did jury duty last November and contracting.
When i started I was given a claim form to fill in. Had to fill in the distance travelled each day and if I could or couldn't go into work when not needed. Any days that I could go back into work for, I couldn't claim for. I also had to send one of the forms off to my umbrella company who completed it to confirm i worked for them etc and what rate i was on.

But the court doesn't want other half on Monday and its too late a notice to go into work, work have filled the form out to say cant go in back to work at short notice, looking at the court forms it only gives the amounts they pay for half a day or a full day, well being as they aren't needed it neither of those so doesn't explain how it's reimbursed.none of the loss of earnings apply cause other half isn't needed to attend and he can't go into work either just being strung along waiting and to ring again monday, also rang the jury officers number on numerous times kept getting ,busy, not available etc,its really not on all the stress and phone calls.
  • if work have said (on the form) that he can't go back at short notice then it'll probably be paid as a court day.
  • So, email them with your query and ask for their advice.

Thanks for all you're advice this sort of scenario isn't explained in any of the info, also as I said before other half has only just started this job and is on 3months probation period to start with so is very anxious not to mess his employer about as he really wants this job.

Ring the court direct. My dad used to be a jury officer and dealt with this situation all the time. It won't be new to them.
