my desktop is 7 years old and very slow, I want to replace it but keep the monitor (screen ?) and keyboard if poss. I have 2 questions and would be grateful for advice/recommendations.
1. Is it possible to buy small processors that are just as powerful as the "standard" sizes. By small I mean small dimensions not power ! Can anyone recommend a brand please
2. Are keyboards and monitors universally compatible with PCs or do I need to check that my existing items will work with the new processor ?
thank you as always

Yes, have a look at the following;

Your monitor and keyboard should be fine and you get a keyboard and mouse with it.
This is just one example, there are others. Just be aware that some don't come with Windows, usually the cheaper versions.
Here is a fuller list of some of the possibilities

Can be fixed in 10 minutes by reinstalling windows using the factory image on your d drive, backup data first because a factory restore will wipe it.

7 year old hardware is still going to be slow these days though.0

After 7 years I think technology has moved on enough and prices fallen enough to warrant you treating yourself to a new machine. Follow Mr Toad's advice and you won't go wrong.0

without an operating system, I doubt it.
