This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!
As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or slow internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.
Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “hi everyone, hope everyone’s well” is fine.

Good morning everyone
It's Saturday but woke up at 5am and couldn't get back to sleep. So have been doing some online banking and adding up Payment a Day challenges.
Mine and DH's new glasses are ready so are going to collect those this morning and put a small tax rebate cheque in the bank. Then we are off for a walk and a mooch around somewhere, need to get a bit of fresh air and blow some cobwebs and bad feelings away.
Ended up a little more positive at work yesterday as I thought of a counter proposal in opposition to the company's drastic cuts. Got the other employee reps and our staff groups on board with it and managed to get it written up and presented by the end of the day. We doubt they will accept it but we will have tried to do something and not just taken it laying down. Thanks everyone for the wonderful good wishes and support, it really is greatly appreciated.
The pork mince was absolutely fine and made a delicious Thai meal with cucumber and radish salad. No idea what is for dinner tonight so better go and check the freezer now.
Well wishes for all sick people and pets and hugs for those who need or just want them. Keep well and safe and have a super dayLBM 10/1/12 ~ DFW Start 6/2/12: £82,344 ~ Now Zero:staradmin:starmod::staradmin Debt free 17th April 2015 :staradmin:starmod::staradmin

Morning all
Mr Noisy isn't working today so I slept through til 7ish, I've made the 1st cuppa of the day.
Take care of yourselves Molly & Hilly, Molly, stuff the housework, or do what I did, pay a cleaner for a one off hit.
I'm hoping to find the energy to clean the drawer front that has broken off the bottom of my cooker. I want hubby to mend it but need to get it clean first.
I don't want to do much else apart from some crochet and a few loads of laundry.
I queried my pay slip last week and got a reply y'day, I didn't think I should still be paying NI now I'm past retirement age, our payroll clerk said she'd look into it. She got back to me to tell me that according to the company we outsource our payroll to, I do carry on paying NI because I've deferred my pension. I asked if she'd checked with HMRC, no! I've forwarded her the link that clearly states that NI isn't paid after retirement age!
Have a good day everyone.

Hi all,
Glad I'm not at work today - I slept until 8am which is very unlike me!
Off into town this morning with BF to meet his mum. They are going to buy his brother's birthday present for his 30th on Tuesday. I'm going clothes shopping instead lol
Then we have to go to Whitley Bay to sign the tenancy agreement for the next 12 months in our house :-)
Hoping to do more crocheting today - making a cushion cover for BF's granny for Christmas, and I'd like to have it finished by the end of this month!
Hester - you definitely stop paying NI once you reach state pension age - ring the NI helpline and ask for a Certificate of Age Exception, you need to give that to your employer. They will then need to refund everything you have paid since your SPA birthday, or April this year (whichever came latest) if you reached SPA before April, you'll need to write to the NI Office with your P60 to get the rest refunded.the only debt left now is on credit cards! The evil loan has gone!! :j:j0 -
Hester - by deferring do you mean you've chosen to to draw your pension and keep working? If so you're correct. My father did the same and he ceased paying NI once he was past retirement age.
TTFTM good on your for the conter proposal. Sending positive vibes that it is accepted xx
Morning everyone
I can see blue skyhoping today will stay dry as we want to go exploring local area today. Going to take dogs and kids for a nice walk somewhere. Looking forward to it
Not much OS am afraid, HM pizza and BM going on for the most part.
Hugs and spoons all round but especially Molly and Hilly xxxI have a gift for enraging people, but if I ever bore you it'll be with a knifeLouise Brooks

Morning all!
Hester - to join in the chorus - you're right & they are wrong. DH says so and he has worked in NI & taxes all his life (somebody has to, so I still love him;)).
PP - sending virtual hugs :grouphug:
My Ebay items are ending today - it looks like DD has done well as her dresses have sold. That should help a bit - her pay rise promised from last November will finally be paid but only from yesterday. Will you forgive me if I call her employer a skank?
Off to pack a few parcels in the hope of payment before the PO closes - little optimist me.
Hugs all round xI can cook and sew, make flowers grow.0 -

Good Morning Everyone :hello:
Been MIA for absolutely ages! Work was so mad over the school holidays, no time for anything. Now getting slightly back to normal but working loads this weekend as holiday cover.
PP (((hugs))) to you, my DD goes in a couple of weeks, we still have loads to do first - its costing me a fortune
Not been totally MSE thoughout the holidays but then not too bad either, meal planning was a bit hit and miss due to my different hours and also the hot weather. Now getting back into routine. Saying that am at work early today and tomorrow afternoon so need to sort dinner for those days.
Hope everyone is ok, hopefully will be popping in a little more regularly now.x0
