Posting Etiquette

Apologies if this has already been posted a million times before but I was just wondering what the posting etiquette is if you know that a certain person always goes out of their way to post competitions for a website but you notice a competition that they haven't posted.
Do we:
1) Post it because it hasn't been posted and the sooner it is on the board the better
2) PM the usual poster asking them if they have noticed the competition and if they will be posting it
3) Post the competition and then PM the usual poster to let them know that is what you have done.
I dont mean to be finicky but I have seen this break out into arguments in the past and I know that people do invest a lot of time and effort into the websites that they "look after" and really do not want to step on any toes.
If people could help I would be very grateful
Thank you xx

Give me a minute & I'll get a few links :-)
I'm well past getting upset over others posting via my usual sites as that is a road that only leads to upset so better not to travel it.
In the end just do as you feel is OK with your own ethos & be happy in your comping.0 -
hi, MSE Andrea posted this for us all..
http://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/showpost.php?p=25380989&postcount=160
the only exceptions being the magazine comps weekly/monthly
& postal comps as peeps pay for them & do the puzzles in them for every one

Thank you for the replies so far - I used to use the getting started guide as there used to be a list up but for some reason it seems to have been taken down?
Maybe because of the updated post you have just given me. (oops can't be as that was in 2009!)
Thanks again for the replies - it is good to know other peoples opinion.. Safety in numbers and all that0 -
there's also this in the compers guide..
Posting Comps
1 How can I find comps to post on here, I’ve entered loads & want to give some back?
Regular compers on MSE already post the daily ITV comps & will arrange for someone to cover them if they aren't going to be around - because the search facility won't pick something up for at least 30 mins after posting, please remember that regular posters will probably already have this in hand! Also, the magazine comps that have their own threads will have lists of people that buy the magazines, answer the puzzles then post the answers on here for others. Please respect these existing posters as it is their money they are handing over to buy the mags & give us the answers. If you are interested in helping out or posting a particular magazine then either post in that mags thread or if you can't find the actual thread then post in the Compers Chat Corner Board to ask about it & another comper will be along to help point you in the right direction.

Thank you both for going out of your way and taking precious comping time out to provide links for me, as I say that is the board that I use the most before submitting any competition but I'm sure it used to have a comprehensive list of sites that people "looked after" perhaps it has been taken down because like you have both said nobody owns the sites.
It was just helpful for people like me that really wants to give something back but also doesn't want to step on anyones toes. For me it isn't about getting as many thanks (Not saying that is what it is about to regular posters) but I get a nice sense of Karma and not feel like a complete fraud when I have a little bit of a winning spree.
I know how much hard work and effort people put in this board (not only the people that post the competitions but the people that help others, request merges, help with answers and even post links for newbies) and think find it all so good spirited and humbling.
Thank you for the advice, I think I will post but with a PM to the usual poster and hope that nobody gets offended.
Thank you again for all advice and quick responses.

Oh dear
Thank you so much weeowens for the links. This is exactly what I am trying to avoid.
My experience on here has been really positive so far and really dont want that to change. But I guess it is as so many people have said before - you can't please everybody.
I shall be referring back to this list in future and looking for them names - if I come across one of "their" websites I will be sure to PM them so they can post. Perhaps this is a good place for similar people to do the same? So that I know whether to post their competitions or not?
I for one have had you ad terms to my competitions and I have been nothing but grateful, I am much too lazy to add them myself and know that you have saved me from entering useless competitions which in turn has allowed someone more deserving win. So thank you for doing it!
Different strokes for different folks i guess!0 -
hi, afaik & I've been on here since 2005 then started posting comps/joining in in 2007 there's not been a list of anyone that posts 'particular' sites,
the only ones that have had listed names are the mag/postal ones
ie:
puzzler.com competitions - regularly updated (Part 4)
Take a Break Puzzle Magazines - regularly updated
Postal, Text and Phone Competitions - Part 21

I think you have to do whatever feels right to you.
I post competitions that are not on the boards, someone else might do things differently. All down to personal choice really as no-one owns comping rights to specific sites.
No worries.Much as I said in #2.
I'd hope we are all well past the posts of the past & can just all co-exist as compers.
As you say WWJD.
If he was a comper I bet he would share,be kind to all & accept all efforts with grace.0 -
Personally (not including magazine comps, ITV, Shortlist, Empire and a few others where I know there is a very regular poster) if I see a competition I'll post it up, as I'd rather a comp be posted than not. I have PMd members letting them know that there's a new comp on the site that they often post for, but that's after I've checked they are online. Afterall, they may be on holiday or evn poorly or have internet issues.UEFA: Corrupting Football Since 1954 #CTID0

You must always search before posting a comp to make sure it is not already posted. When I search, I always search by site name e.g. "argos". From the search results it is easy to see if someone has been regularly posting for that site. If there is someone doing it regularly and they are online I would send a PM to let them know about an unposted comp, If they are not online I would probably post it.0
