Reducing health insurance costs

I'm self employed, 34 and currently have a health insurance policy with WPA that I took out in February. I pay £45 a month for basic cover plus an option to have all ultrasound and scanning costs paid for. Without this option the policy would only have been around £18 a month. WPA operate a shared responsibility plan where I pay 25% of the cost of any treatment up to a maximum of £500 in any one year.

The only reason I took it out the scanning option was that I reasoned as a women I was far more likely to have something go wrong and require an ultrasound scan of my reproductive organs and boobs than anything else.

I have never had a problem that required a scan and there are no female-related disorders or diseases - such as breast cancer or ovarian cancer - running in my family that would make me any more likely to develop a problem that the next woman.

At the moment hubbie and I are going great guns paying off our debts etc and I'm wondering whether to reduce the policy back down to basic cover and spend the extra for the scanning option on paying down a bit more debt.I should point out I'm very happy with WPA and am not looking to change companies at all.

Any suggestions or advice would be very welcome.

Thanks in advance
