MS Outlook 2007 Set Up Issues

Hi, I have tried several times to set up Outlook on my new computer and although I now have the Outlook actually onto my computer, it wont let me send or receive emails.

I am currently using Windows 8 but had the same problem with previous computer which had Windows 7 installed so it is obviously something I am doing wrong; I just don't know what.

The only way I could start the set up was via wizard as this is what automatically comes up when I click onto the Outlook icon. I have always had to use a yahoo account and would like an outlook one besides.

We are with BT Broadband if this makes any difference?

I would be grateful of any help please with this set up as I believe I may be putting in the incorrect information somewhere. Many Thanks

  • when you try and send / receive emails, it'll tell you why you can't do it, in the pop up box (click the errors tab)

but the usual suspect is that you've set it up wrong.

Are you trying to use Outlook for your Yahoo account or a different email address?
  • I am trying to set up a different email address. Many years ago I had a btinternet.com email address but can't seem to activate that.

With BT being the service provider does the email extension have to be as above or can it be such as 'Hotmail.com'?

    thank you

No, the email address doesn't have to be the same as your ISP, but you need to set the address up before you try to add it to Outlook.

Outlook will only let you send and receive mails from a valid email account.
    1. Have you tried to Google the answer?
    2. If you were in the other person's shoes, how would you react?
    3. Do you want a quick answer or better understanding?

Thank you. I have been onto BT to establish my correct email details and that is now sorted but they can't help me where outlook is concerned. When going through the process of configuring the outlook details, it asks for network password. I have tried all the numbers on the BT hub but none are the correct passwords. I have written to BT support online and asking where I can find this detail. I now have my BT email sorted but really like to use Outlook as used to using that at work. Does anyone know what sort of password the network password would be please. Many thanks

The network password is the password for the email address for inbound mail and the isp / internet password for outgoing mail.

you'll need the smtp address for your ISP and the POP3 address for BT.

When sending emails it has to go through your ISP's outbound (smtp) mail server and incoming picks up from your email ISP. I've got 2010 on my work PC so can't confirm all the settings till I get home.
  • Thank you. I have tried that several times too but it isn't working. I will keep trying until I hear back from BT. Many thanks all for your help.
