Vanquis Repayment Option Plan

I opened applied for a Vanquis credit card a few months ago, it was accepted and I got a phone call to confirm my details.

On the phone the advisor was very pushy trying to get my to use the repayment option plan, I kept saying no thank you and eventually told him I really didnt need it because I had more savings than the credit limit so if I had trouble I didnt envisage a problem. he said oh but then you wont have to use your savings, again i said no.

Then I noticed that these repayment fees were being debited from my account. I wrote and complained, they replied saying I must have agreed to it and no I could not not have my money back. They said the plan would be removed from my account.

I replied saying I was not happy with that as I am certain I refused this plan over and over. I have had no reply.

So now as well as still waiting for a reply about this I see they have taken more repayment option debits from my account even though they said they wouldnt.

I guess Financial ombudsmen is my next port of call, but what are my chances of getting the payments back and are Vanquis likely to be peeved and cancel my account?

You're not the first to have had these payments deducted and i'm sure you won't be the last. I can't see Vanquis cancelling your account, I think you'll be fine there. I think your chances of getting these payments back will be very good. You just need to keep on their case, forcefully, politely and explain it all clearly. I would call Vanquis again before escalating to outside regulators as I think this can be dealt inhouse, at least for now....
  • call vanquis and ask for the call to be listened to or ask for a subject access request. They can take up to 60 days to respond. If they dont respond get in touch with the ombusman

  • I found them to be rather pushy as well when attempting to sell me this, but I felt it was not needed... I think they got the message and have not added it to my first statement!
