No need to buy another slow cooker, I'm sure the one your daughter already has will do fine.We got one as a wedding present 21 years ago & it works well.I mainly use it for cooking joints of meat.I do not add any water at all, and the natural juices that come out of the meat are very tasty.0

You heat up whatever you're cooking then the wonderbag keeps it cooking by insulating it without using any electricity.
They are a good idea (but a homemade haybox or duvet box is cheaper) but morgan's daughter doesn't want to spend time heating things up in the morning.0 -
I bought 2 cookworks slow cookers 5 years ago for a birthday buffet I was hosting, one with chilli in and one with curry in and they cost me £10 each and I've used them both frequently. One with a casserole in and the other a pudding. I don't know if I can mention this but there's a great FB group called slow cooker saddos which is great for SC advice and recipes and free unlike a book xGrocery challenge June 2016

I have used a slow cooker for years, when my handed down 1970s model packed up last year I replaced it with a very cheap Tesco one. I do think there are people out there who just dont like slow cooked meat and casseroles though, my brother just never seemed to get the hang of his.
With mine there is no reason why you cant bung everything in cold, switch it on low and leave it all day, especially if its going to be on for 7 or 8 hours. Of course there is a bit of preparation work to do, whether you do it the night before or in the morning, but you would have to do that if you were making a meal anyway.
Nothing like coming home to a ready done meal in my opinion!0 -
I just bung in chopped potatoes, carrots and onions, add a bag of Quorn Beef Style Strips (defrosted), top up to about 1" from the top with hot water, sprinkle on about 2 heaped desert spoons of gravy granules, put the lid on and switch on low.
When I get home from work, about 14 hours later, it's ready to eat.
ETA: I forgot an ingredient.
A couple of tins of chopped tomatoes, to thicken up the stew.0 -
I never pre fry the meat, always comes out lovely.
I loved my cook works one but I broke the dishgot a beautiful crockpot one now but I preferred the cooks works one

I take off the lid.. sling food in.. turn it on, replace the lid and ignore it until slopping out time. Mine has 1 temperature.. 'Cook' .. and 4-12 hour cooking time.. after the cooking time it goes to keep warm temp until you turn it off.
The only thing I put in later are dumplings in the stew and corned beef in the hash..
oh you do corn-beef hash in the slow cooker ? do u have a recipe pls0 -
Oh dear, OS is costing me money again. I asked this question and the answers were so positive that I have now bought myself a new SC (had freegled my last which smelt all chemically and made the food taste like that too - think it wasn't right) which I intend to use along the lines suggested by all you kind people on here. Things have changed since I last had a SC, you seem not to need to pre-heat everything, there are more settings than just the one I had, and i am hoping for wonderful things. If I hate it I shall give it to DD who will love it I am sure, as the one her husband uses is also a one setting one (given to him in student days by his Gran, so it owes him nothing).Wish me luck ! (and many thanks)0

You don't need luck as SCs are pretty straightforward nowadays.
I would recommend this as the most useful book on the subject, and not the most expensive or celebrity endorsed:
