OVER 60 How often would I have to sign on at Job Centre ?. Any Benefits for me ?

I wondered if anyone knew ?.
If I started signing on I don't think I could actually claim anything would just be for my 'stamp'.
If there are any other benefits to me going can you tell me please.
I am looking for a part-time job but look on the Gov website and others on a daily basis.
I rang the local Job Centre number just and after a few mins a woman answered, I asked her this very basic question thinking she would give me an answer but all she did was ask for my postcode and straightaway tried to pass me through to somewhere else. After a few minutes I was directed to an engaged tone which duely cut me off!

Get a pension check and see if you have enough years for a full pension. If not, it could be worth signing on to get credits.

I would still like an idea of how often I would have to sign on, any over 60's on here signing on ?. How often do you have to go and do you get any job interviews from The Job Centre ?0

You may have to sign on on a weekly basis or even fortnightly.
Are you claiming Job seekers allowance. If not, get a pension forecast, if yu are not claiming anything and have more than the required 'stamps' you may not have to sign on at all.
What makes you thnk you wouldn't get any money then, if you have paid the required amount of stamps in the last couple of full tax years, then you can claim JSA. More details are needed to enable people to help youmake the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.
and we will never, ever return.0 -
Of course they do, thousands every day,

Are you receiving a pension? If not, then you are in the same position as any other job-seeker. Most of us usually have to sign on once a fortnight, and receive some money so long as our savings are less then 16,000. Some people who have savings above that limit receive contributions-based JSA.
The job centre does have information about employers and the staff may point out particular vacancies that they think might interest you. If you need help applying, they may provide that assistance and so it is possible that you could get a job interview through them.0 -

Of course they do, thousands every day,
“The government took the decision to change the role of jobcentres and almost overnight they have gone from being the place where you go to get help to the place where you go to get your benefits stopped." Allan Sampson, Regional Secretary, Public and Commercial Services Union.0 -
I can only speak from experience, we often used to speak to Jc and set up interviews....We’ve had to remove your signature. Please check the Forum Rules if you’re unsure why it’s been removed and, if still unsure, email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0
