I watch live sport on my laptop and now connect through an HDMI cable to my Smart TV and watch it there.
But is there an easier way of doing this with something better/cheaper/easier than a laptop???

It's your money. Except if it's the governments.

What sport are you watching? Is it foreign streams of footy matches?
If you're a bit technically minded and can follow instruction, get a nowtv box for £10, and sideload plex. You'll still need a laptop, desktop or a fancier nas drive but at least it won't have to be connected to the TV.0 -

I guess it all boils down to what you are watching - are you streaming SKY Sports and the like for free through a browser?
Does your SmartTV have a browser built in?
If you have a PS3 or XBox already then these have browsers so that might be an option.
How about a cheap tablet with an HDMI connection? I haven;t checked the specs very closely but a quick ebay search shows this tablet with HDMI

Ditto tablets, do they have browsers with RAM
And also why does it matter what sport I'm watching.
It's sport that is streamed over the net. It's your money. Except if it's the governments.0 -
I was in exactly the same boat as you slinga and went with this
http://www.amazon.com/eMachines-ER1401-57-Ultra-slim-Computer-Processor/dp/B00475OG9U/ref=cm_cr_pr_product_top
It hangs off a bracket on the back of the tv so no cables on show.Very neat.
Works a treat too,I'm running XP on mine.
Maybe you can pick one up 2nd hand off Ebay ?
So far as I know smart tvs are only able to access a limited number of websites and don't have proper browsers.
If you use an android tablet I believe you will need to install flash player....it's not on the play store anymore but it is available off 3rd party sites0 -
I use an android media player to stream tv.

Had this one for a while now, so there are probably newer versions, and obviously different makes.0 -

I was just trying to clarify if it was 'browser based' or you were using an app such as SkyGo. I was asking for info to see if an Apple TV

or a google Tv might be appropriate
http://www.argos.co.uk/static/Product/partNumber/5323184.htmDo Smart TVs have browsers and do they have RAM?. Didn't know that. What model??

hope this helps.0 -
I've got a LG Smart tv which is connected to wifi but if I try to stream sport directly it tends to buffer all the time which I assume is due to the fact there is no RAM because when I connect through my wifi laptop and HDMI cable all works well with no buffering.
Looks like the android media player it is then.

Try a WII - They have HDMI and browsers - they are probably cheaper than PS3's and Xboxes - especially 1st gen ones !! (ebay)0
