Cannot access main us weather site, keeps defaulting back to uk version

I am a keen weather watcher and have an icon on my toolbar to take me direct to the main US weather channel site (www.weather.com). I tried to use this just now as I wanted to follow their coverage of the floods in Colorado. But instead of getting in to their site, I got bounced back to the uk version, uk.weather.com, which is not what I want at all.
I have tried deleting the browsing history, to remove any cookies, and changed my settings so that they are set to default to US English but no change. I have even tried tunnelling in via my tunnelbear account as a US user. No joy. I get a message of Invalid Security certificate, and when I say proceed anyway, it defaults me back to the UK site again.
I assume there is some hidden cookie on my PC tucked away doing this, as tunnelling in as a US user should work. Any suggestions on how to fix this?

The uk redirect only happens to me if I go to the weather.com homepage first. All subsequent links are then uk related.
However if I go straight to a US specific page e.g.
http://www.weather.com/news/tornado-central/severe-weather-tracker-page
then I can go on to access the other US pages.
If this works for you just amend your shortcut to something other than the weather.com homepage e.g.
http://www.weather.com/newscenter/nationalforecast/
and avoid the site's homepage link at the top left0
