Friday 13th September - What small DFW things will you do today?

When we start out on the Debt-Free Wannabe trail we do loads of "big stuff" that makes quite a difference to our situation. These include having our lightbulb moment, cutting up the credit cards and cancelling Sky and the gym.

But once we have done the bigger stuff, we often feel that we are not making the same amount of progress, when in fact the small steps are helping us form good financial habits and helping us get closer everyday to staying in control and becoming debt free, or staying debt free. .

Examples could be hanging washing out instead of using the tumble dryer or leaving your purse/wallet at home to avoid the risk of spending :money:

  • Morning lovelies!!

Thanks for the kick-off Ziggy!! And may I second the good luck and thoughts to Ally today for her interview!!

Not so much to do today, mainly organising the next few months as i expect to be busy at work...
Going to be quite a spendy one, but that includes little Christmas gifts, so will be glad come November/December I'm sure!!
I'm working nights tonight and tomorrow - always a delight on Friday and Saturday.... NOT!! :rotfl:
I'm hoping to have a decent amount of sleep so I'm not too impatient with the drunks later ;)

So, today's list goes something like:

:) Check banking - skim accounts to savings

:) Call First Direct and set up account and regular saver with them. Not going to close my Lloyds account - unless the Lloyds / TSB split goes Pete Tong.... The local Branch of Lloyds is exceptionally good, and I get on very well with the Manager (thinking further down the line for mortgages etc) I'd rather cycle money between them for now I think.

:) Check MSE for best exchange rate and order Egyptian Pounds for holiday next month (leaving plenty of time owing to the unrest out there)

:) Walk to lidl and buy hair clippers on their offer... Top brand and at only £10 be mad not to!! OH and I both have clippered sides, so going to have a go at our own which should mean the need for a proper haircut only every 3-4 months rather than 3-4 weeks!!

:) Order Christmas flip-flops (£10 each) for all my family... I know it sounds mad, but we will be in Thailand for Christmas :j and the flip flops are a direct donation to orphans affected by the 2004 tsunami, so will all be wearing them with pride on our travels!!
Check out: https://www.gandysflipflops.com if you're interested - cute story!! But they are cheaper elsewhere ;)

    :) Nectar Adpoints

    :) 30-Day Shred workout

:) Cycle up allotment if the rain lets up!!

:) Make something a bit special for OH for dinner as we've hardly seen each other this week due to shifts clashing :(

:) Clean house so OH doesn't have to spend her days off doing chores!! Brownie Points!

:) Take healthy snacks and drinks to work tonight to save buying sugary rubbish!!

:) Lift share to work with colleague. Halfway through the month and I still have a full tank! Result!!

:) Sleep all day tomorrow, so I have a NSD to counterbalance today's spendy day!! :rotfl:

:) The heating is still not on here either! I'm determined it won't go on until after we get back from Egypt at the end of October!! Ha!!

Think that's it really, hope everyone is well and enjoying that Friday Feeling!! :D

Lots of MSE love and hugs to all that need them!!

  • Hi everyone,

Just over a year after I wrote my last post on here, I am back with a vengeance. Hope you are all well, it is good to see a few familiar faces on here.

This is where my Debt Free Journey starts once again and this times its for good....

    Today I will:

    - Have B & L from home. I am meeting a friend tonight to wish her well as she leaves for work on a cruise for 6 months tomorrow. I have a bottle of wine in the fridge which I will suggest that we share and then perhaps have a frozen pizza for dinner.

    - Go to the gym for a free class, swim, sauna and jacuzzi to cheer myself up

    - [STRIKE]Check banking and update my sig [/STRIKE]

    - Do some Ironing whilst I catch up with last nights episode of 'The Guilty'

    - Clean the bathroom, kitchen and lounge

    - Put one load of laundry in

Right, I think thats all I can manage to fit in today.

    Lots of love,

    PP xx :p

    Afternoon all

Thanks for all your kind words. Back sooner than I thought! The interview went really well but I won't know if I've got the job until Wednesday. It would be a lovely job to have...Got that Friday feeling now.

    Thanks for the starter Ziggy.

Shoot: We have hair clippers too. Amazing. Saved us a fortune over the years we've had them.

    The List:

:staradmin OH's cousin was coming round for tea and biscuits s'afternoon but unfortunately isn't well. Saved on tea and biscuits! ;)

:staradmin Very light breakfast this morning.

:staradmin OH came with me in the car to the interview and managed to buy some reduced price cooking margarine and a reduced price fruit pie. Took a flask of coffee with us.

:staradmin Paid £10 off credit card.

:staradmin Got double Nectar Points on BP petrol purchase using voucher.

:staradmin Checked progress of selling broken Freeview box on eBay. Being watched. Yay!

:staradmin Dispose of tree I felled the other day.

:staradmin Wash on quick wash and dry outside. Done.

:staradmin Write to Sky TV to get a dispute resolved. Keep putting this off. :o

:staradmin Open separate Facebook account and email account to try my hand at comping.

:staradmin Emailed Council to ask when last garden waste bin uplifted/collection is for the season. Otherwise we'll need to drive it to the coup/tip. We have no space left to make any more compost.

:staradmin Ignore debt collection letter for previous tenant. Have told them three times I don't know who it is or where s/he lives, in fact I think s/he might have died. Enough is enough. Certainly not going to ring their 0845 number to talk to them about it. They even put in the letter "We now require you to contact us even if you are not the tenant responsible for the debt." Nice try, no cigar. Cheeky bandits.

    Freebies:

:staradmin Free cinema tickets for Virgin customers? (Link)

    Offers:

:staradmin Burger King 2-for-1 coupons (Link)
