Lloyds Cardnet Charging Me For Reversal/Chargeback!!

I own a fast food restaurant with home deliverys the main point.

Few months ago i got a letter from lloyds cardnet telling me someone used a stolen card to order and pay me so they took the money abck and charegd me.

Same thing happened today i am having to refund £50 today for a ccouple of payments made in early june.

I looked through my card receipts and found the address where the roder was delivered to.
Went to the police station and they said we cannot do anything go to actionfraud and if they see it necessary then we will get involved.
told them to shove it and went straight to the address where the food was delivered to and found it was empty(They told me they can arrest me for harrasment if they get called!!!).

i phoned cardnet asked them what was going on why am i not protected against this kind of thing they were very rude and also said you take these type of payments at your own risk so we cant do anything.

Is there anything i can do this time to not pay for it out of my own pocket?

Also are there any other merchants that protect us against this kiind of thing?
If the cardholder is protected then why shouldnt we be aswell?
I'm considering barclaycard had someone around few weeks ago said he will match whatever rates im getting from lloyds tsb.

  • On the basis that you are delivering presumably you are doing most of these transactions as telephone/ MOTO or are they internet? Are you using the AVS (address verification system)? If not then that would be the first step, activate full AVS checking and only accept orders where the foods to be delivered to the registered address of the card. The downside will be some address, particularly flats, will fail, foreign cards cant be AVS checked and it isnt a perfect solution. Up to you to decide if the lost business from AVS fails is worth it or not -v- less chargebacks

The advantage with this is you know that you have the billing address (in theory) and whilst you no more likely to win chargebacks you do have somewhere to go to try and collect the monies. Depending on your average transaction level this may not be cost effective though beyond a single threatening letter

Consumers will always receive greater protection than businesses. As a business you are considered big enough and intelligent enough not to require the level of protection that the masses of the public do.
