Thanks all. Can't drive big cars as have no experience with them so not able to buy anything astra or golf sized without risking an accident and my insurance going even more thru the roof.

The 306 is one of the best cars Peugeot has made in the last 20 years, I had a Xsara (almost the same as a 306) for almost five years and rarely had a problem with it compared to my partners 2003 KA we've not long got rid of and it was a money pit. Fan belt, rocker gasket, all four springs (one snapped, one cracked), alternator, heater control valve, thermostat, water pump, random fuse and bulb blowing and you could almost see the rust spreading. Although it did handle well, leather interior was nice and the heated screen was handy, just a shame the brakes are poor.
BTW all this was in the space of about 9 months, we had the AA out three times for breakdowns. Got a C3 now and she loves it.0 -
Thank you for your help everyone. I've come to the conclusion that something has to give. I can't get what I want for my criteria so will have to re-establish them and compromise.
This thread has given me so much information and food for thought, thank you all.Emergency savings: 4600
