Another hmrc botch up

I received a letter from HMRC, saying that my pension and interest in 2011/12 indicated that these exceeded my personal allowance and they were going to contact building societies and de-register my accounts in order that I would pay tax. I told them that in that year my building society, accounts were in fact taxed and I had received a part refund for that year as tax was only due at 10%.

I also sent them details of my pension and anticipated interest for the current year and asked them to check the figures and not de-register the accounts.
Confirrmation received from them my figures were, ok and no further action would be needed.

To-day I received letters from 2 building societies saying HMRC had instructed them to de-register my accounts.!!
I will be on the phone to HMRC to-morrow and see what they intend to do next, what a shambles.
