Is it possible to deposit a cheque via post to Santander for example?
Unfortunately I am unable to get to the bank due to work commitments and also have no one to do it for me

Yes. Just post it to any branch.
If you are passing the branch out of working hours, you can either put it through their letter box or often you can pay in at an ATM.
I'd suggest writing your sort code and account number on the back - just in case it gets lost somewhere.0
