How much does it cost to move a boiler from a bedroom to the kitchen?

We need to move a boiler from our child's bedroom from upstairs to the downstairs kitchen. The boiler is 4 years old. We've been quoted approx £1200-£1400, this feels a bit steep to me as I know someone that got one moved for £800.
What would be a fair price? There are so many cowboys out there, wanted to be sure. It isn't a big job for someone who knows what they're doing right?

I would say it would depend a lot on the relative positions as the pipework will need moving. If they are far apart or the piperuns difficult, obviously it will be more.

Thanks. The kitchen is directly below the bedroom in question so from what you said I'm guessing this will reduce costs for a start... but I'd still like to know if anyone has a rough quote?
  • you have already had at least one from someone who has seen the job

Its also physically the same amount of work as a new install and the paperwork requirements are the same as for a new install.

    Cheers

  • I've just had the same moved, didn't ask the plumber for a quote and he charged me £600. Best £600 I've spent.

Can't quote without being a qualified heating engineer and actually seeing the job!

Also, you need a registered heating engineer to do the job and not a plumber. Gas will be involved. The boiler will need to be recommissioned after the job.

It's really not worth trying to get this sort of job done as cheaply as possible when the safety of you and your family is involved.
Everyone is entitled to my opinion!
  • My boiler was moved by a registered heating engineer (plumber) he also provided paperwork with all gas test readings ect.

Do you mean you had your boiler moved from one room to another i.e from upstaires to downstaires and it cost you £600? That's amazing. Who was this person superman?:D
  • Just our local plumber (heating engineer) and his employee.
  • Last year we were having a new kitchen extension built and in order to do so we had to first remove the boiler that had been installed as part of a new oil heating system in 2010. The main issue was that the PO had got them to install it in a dilapidated extension that we needed to demolish to make way for said extension. The boiler would need to be taken out and set aside till the new utility room was ready for it. The pipework was capped off above the old room and would need to be extended by approx 20' when re-installed.

Long story slightly shorter (lol), we got the heating engineers back that had installed for the PO and their quote was £600 to remove it plus a further £2000+ to re-install it at a later date  Pushed for time and being new to the area, we knew no-one else that could do the work so had them take it out and duly paid the £600 :o

There was no way we would hand over a further £2k as that seemed totally excessive. Fortunately during the course of our build we were recommended the name of a local registered oil heating engineer who did the work for about £300.......

Just shows how vastly quotes can vary - the first was a large (but not national) co based in a city, the other guy a village-based individual.......
