  • Hi there

Plucked up courage to ring pensions and was advised that no decision made as they are still awaiting specialists report!

I have chased this up as have been in process since beginning of July.

I also found out that if I am accepted that payment will only be from that date so the longer it takes consultant to send in report the further back my pension gets!

It has made me quite annoyed as surely NHS consultants complete these pension requests fairly regularly and must understand the importance of them.

Oh well; at least I know what's going on

Parvati; my issue is not related to the job, but is a pathological back problem ( tumour) which is inoperable. I have applied for preserved benefits.
You may have a problem here.... (apart from spelling my name incorrectly! :) )
  • Why do I have a problem?

Apols for incorrect spelling of name:o

I just wonder whether ill-health retirement is paid when the ill-health is not as a result of the job itself. Sorry, I know nothing of these matters.

    Yes, it can be.

  • Hi there

Yes it does; if you are no lo get able to undertake your job due to the effects of that job itself you may be able to claim for personal injury. Ill health is,about your ability to work, not necessarily job related injury.

My retirement was due to back problems. Whilst it could be argued that these had been caused by 30+ years of nursing (and, in fact, I know the exact incident that triggered them), I did not have to prove this in order to get my pension.
