Crete Holiday June 2014

Hi everyone,

My partner and I are looking to have a holiday in Crete next year. We have narrowed it down to two hotels the Anastasia in Stalis and the King Minos in Hersonissos. Just wondered if anyone has any knowledge of either as Tripvisor reviews seem to be good although the latter is about £200 more expensive but has better flight times. Any info would be appreciated please. Thanks in advance Judy x

If you are just going for a week, better flight times can be a good start to a holiday and get you into the holiday mood quicker.
Posts are not advice and must not be relied upon.
  • the resorts are different Stalis is more family & Hersonissos is livlier (but quieter than Malia)

Thanks, I am tempted to go for the King Minos, but wondered if anyone knew anything about the two hotels or area surrounding the hotels for example the distance to local bars restaurants and beaches. By the way we are looking at a 14 day holiday.

There are good and bad bits about both places.

I didnt like hersonissos but I know people who do. I like stalis so that's where I prefer to go. They are walking distance apart.

I prefer the beaches and bars of stalis, as although they're busy, they're less lively than the other place.

I've been to stalis 4 times and I'm booked for a two weeker next year :)

Whichever you choose, you'll be wondering if you chose the right one

Thank you, there is one question I would like to ask re the King Minos Hotel do you know it and are there bars restaurants, sights, places of interest in walking distance. We do like walking but of an evening it is nice not to have to walk a mile before you hit the nearest bar.

Looking at the map, it looks like the hotel is on the non beach side of the road. The main road is very busy, but chock full of bars, restaurants and supermarkets.

The bus from malia to Heraklion goes along the main road, that's a good way of getting around. You can get a bus from Heraklion to pretty much anywhere in the area

Stalis is off the main drag, with less shops but more bars and restaurants.

Sites of interest in that part of Crete are quite low in number. It's better to go to the little travel shops and book excursions directly through them. It's way cheaper than via travel reps at the hotels and IMO its better service too.

  • Head to Elounda or Aghios Nikalaos on Crete.

It is simply the most beautiful part of the island.

We were there this year, I preferred Stalis, the King Minos is near to Stalis, Hersonissos is a bit of a walk to the main strip, the main rd is very, very busy with traffic but you are near to Star Beach which is ok, good for the kids..... Stalis also seems to be cheaper for drinks, Gyros etc..... also you have the village of Koutalafari, it's 3 villages including Piskopiano and Old Hersonissos, they are very nice, good places to eat etc..... up the hill from the King Minos, bit of a walk but you can get a taxi well worth a visit.

You can't get better gyros than the little green shop on the stalis high street :D

    Gosh, I'm drooling already :rotfl:
