New gas fire

Our 15 year old gas fire needs replacing and I wondered if anyone has any advice whether to go for a balanced flue or power flue as we have no chimney?how reliable are these efficiency figures? We are looking for a contemporary fire in brushed silver. TIA

I'd say go for a balanced flue fire - inherently more reliable because there's no fan or electrics to go wrong, no drafts as it is completely sealed from the room, silent in operation and they're typically more efficient.

Went to a couple of showrooms to look at balanced flue fires and one of the sales reps said that we would probably need new backing to our fireplace as these high efficiency models throw out a lot of heat and current one could crack, go brown or catch on fire. Anyone know anything about this. We are really happy with our current mantelpiece and backing and really do not want to change this. Thanks in advance again
