Loft insulation

Hi
Just wanted to clarify a few things re insulating the loft. Just refurbed a 1920's house but the loft hasn't been insulated yet, a small amount of insulation is up there but pretty filthy and manky stuff.
I came across lots of sites talking about grants in my area but not sure if I qualify. I certainly wouldn't qualify for free insulation but if there are government grants to go towards the cost that would be great. Anyone used these grants? Do you have a say in who does the work? There seems to be lots of sites asking you to complete info to have a free survey. Couldn't find anything on my councils website (welwyn Hatfield).
Not really up to doing it myself and would prefer a company to do it properly. The house has solid walls, so no cavity insulation possible and we are finding lots of the rooms really chilly
Just want it done properly and not be ripped off.
Thanks

Hi,
The cost of insulating the average roof would be between £100 to £200 if you do it yourself.
The only grant available (unless you fall into a council area who will do it for free) is the green deal which is a waste of time, by the time you pay for the survey, you still end up paying for the materials so you may as well not waste your money
If you get a company to do it, your probably looking at at lest double.0 -
Have a look at your energy firm's website. Might also be worth contacting the energy savings trust to see if they have any suggestions.0
