Thanks all for you advice.

This is far from a dream home for us and was more something we could start paying money into to get us on the housing ladder. We only wanted to stay there for a couple of years so with all of this in mind we have made the decision to pull out. It could be an absolute nightmare to resell and we think it could turn into a money pit for us.

Whilst frustrating that we will lose time and money I think it is the right thing to do. It is sad that the next set of buyers also may lose money by this not being disclosed from the start but I guess that is a peril of house buying.
