My question is can anyone inform me how much i would expect to recive in WTC if I start work 40 hrs x £5 35 per hr min wage approx £214 i do some mathmatics an I really cant understand how anyone working is going to be better off then Iam been unemployed. see for yourself below

If you apply and give them your 06/07 income as £0 then as long as your income in 07/08 doesn't rise by more than £25,000 (annual disregard) the online calculator is correct.
Then at the end of the 2007/2008 tax year you would complete your annual renewal declaration and tell them your 07/08 income was £220 x 52 weeks = £11440. This is well within the £25,000 disregard and so 07/08 would be closed as balanced.
However the TCO would then use the £11440 as an estimate for the 2008/2009 year, your payments will reduce and providing the £25,000 disregard is still in place and the government haven't changed the rules again, then as long as your 08/09 income doesn't exceed £36440 (£11440 + £25,000) your claim will close as balanced.
In both these cases I'm assuming no other changes in circumstance occurs i.e becoming unemployed or moving in with a partner. This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0 -
Tax Credits are based initially on previous year's income, then when you get an award notice through you are obliged to notify them if you think your income for the current year will go above the limits shown on your award notice."Facism arrives as your friend. It will restore your honour, make you feel proud, protect your house, give you a job, clean up the neighbourhood, remind you of how great you once were, clear out the venal and the corrupt, remove anything you feel is unlike you... [it] doesn't walk in saying, "our programme means militias, mass imprisonments, transportations, war and persecution."0

Hiya
No you won't get any wtc on that income according to https://www.entitledto.co.uk.
However, I've just quickly run your figures through it and you may want to just check yourself!

Ps if you go to the jobcentre, an advisor will run through different scenarios with you and tell you what you could expect to earn etc.0 -
see here is where i get lost in the whole situation
WTC are for people who are on low income to help top up wages, to qualify i must be over 25 working 30 hrs per week or more and on low pay
You can not get any lower then min wage an Im been told i would not qualify
Im totally lost to it point even been in place now and been told conflicting information ,1 saying id get nothing 1 saying the WTC online caclulator is correct at £38 award per week0 -
Yep, the minimum wage is not enough to live on.
Personally I think the millions paid out in tax credits (and !!!! ups!!!) would be better spent on giving employers tax benefits and strict enforcement of a more reasonable minimum wage.
But then it suits the powers that be to have so many people claiming tax credits - easier to keep track of us.
'Big Brother' ain't just a TV show! :mad:0 -
I can understand what the OP is saying, but, who is to say in 6 months time your wage doesn't rise to £6? In a year it's £7? in 5 years you have moved onto XYZ?
Short-term people are no better off, but long-term folk who decide to stay on benefits will never be any better off, workers on the other hand..............0 -
You mentioned that you had been off work due t oillness, were you on Incapacity Benefit? If so have you been on it for more than 6 months? Or do you get any other disability benefits? If you do than there is a disability element of WTC that gets added on which would give you a much higher weekly amount, I calculated £90 per week on entitled to. Ask someone at the Job Centre or if you have Shaw Trust0
