Hello
I am about to make a direct booking for a US hotel. They only quote prices in dollars. When using my credit card, who is responsible for the exchange rate? Is it my CC company? If so, at what point does the conversion happen and is there are fees for this?
Can anyone also recommend a better way of making the booking so to reduce costs
Thank you

Your CC company will charge something like 2.75%, though it may or may not be itemised on your statement.
All the above depends on which CC company your have, some make no charge at all, some charge up to 2.99%.
As to a better way, only if you take out one of the cards that don't charge but, at the end of the day, under 3% isn't a bad deal, and you get protection as well.0 -

As above.
The exchange rate your credit card company give you will almost certainly be excellent, so while there may be a fee it is effectively paid for by the beneficial exchange rate.
You can lose the fee altogether with a Metro Bank credit card (or debit card) or a Halifax Clarity credit card.0 -
