Can I charge a Motorola Razr with a Siemens car charger?

I have an oldish Siemens S25 mobile phone with a car cigar lighter charger that I no longer use.
I have now bought a Razr phone. This charges from either the supplied 230 volt ac adaptor or via a USB cable from a USB port on a PC.
I know I can get a car charger for it for about a £5, but that isn’t very money saving.
Could I convert the Siemens car charger?
I have a few spare USB cables so it would be an easy job to cannibalise one. All I would need to do is connect the positive and negative cables correctly.
I have a multi meter so I can easily check the voltage output of the Siemens charger. Presumably, if that is fairly close to the 5 volts from a USB socket, it should be OK.
Or is it more complicated than that? I don’t want to damage my new phone.

the "power output" of the siemens charger as you call it, will be a lot different to that of the USB, due to your car working on 12 volts. this however shouldnt matter. This is not an automated signature. I write this at the bottom of every message0

You can pick them up on ebay for less than £3.0

If you have a multimeter, check the output from your old car charger, which won't be 12V. Many car chargers are the same with simply a different connector on the end of the cable. Blue text on this forum usually signifies hyperlinks, so click on them!..:wall:0

The input voltage is 12 volts but the output voltage will be a lot lower. Most mobiles require 3 to 5 volts for charging and powering.the "power output" of the siemens charger as you call it, will be a lot different to that of the USB, due to your car working on 12 volts. this however shouldnt matter.
That is what I thought. If you have a multimeter, check the output from your old car charger, which won't be 12V. Many car chargers are the same with simply a different connector on the end of the cable.
Universal car chargers are available with different connectors for different phone brands so presumably all those phones can work with the same voltage supply.
I will try and find the a/c charger for the Siemens and see what the voltage output on that is. If it is close to 5 volts I think I will be fine.
Thanks for all your replies.
