Lease extension for an ex-Warner flat

Hello, I hope someone here can advise. The lease on our flat is down to 59 years, and we are now in a position to extend it. We were going to use a company called Leasehold Solutions to do it all for us, but I've seen some bad reviews of them on the internet so I'm thinking of doing the process by myself. I understand the first thing I need to do is find a solicitor, so I wondered if anyone who has experience of this can recommend someone to me? If anyone has any tips or advice about this in general it would be much appreciated because I'm learning it all for the first time now. All I know is that it's going to cost a lot!

I take it you are in the east London? If so I can recommend a solicitor as I was involved in a lease extension last year. Not sure if I can actually post this here without breaking forum rules, but can say my solicitor was one of the senior partners in the large firm where hoe st joins the top end of market.
You will also need a qualified surveyor and I used a firm in highams park which also has an estate agent branch in stow. Again I got good service.
Neither were cheap it is an expensive process. I felt more secure working with independent specialists rather than one firm that does it all in-house.0 -
All you really need is a solicitor who can do lease extensions. There are many in London. They will also usually be able to arrange the leasehold valuations. As a start perhaps ask the solicitor who you used when you bought the flat. If they don't do lease extensions they are sure to recommend a solicitor who can assist.0

Hi, I can recommend both the surveyor and the solicitor for the lease extension. We went through the process for our flat in South Woodford so not too far from you I believe. If you would like to PM me I am happy to pass on their details.
I would do as much research as you can on the process as it is not without its pitfalls. The LEASE website is a good place to start and you can also call one of their advisers to clarify what needs to happen if you are unsure of anything. HTH0 -
Thanks for your replies, I'm sorry I didn't realise I couldn't ask for specific recommendations of companies. Yes, I'm in Walthamstow. That's some good advice for me to go on to start with, I'll see how I get on.0
