Thinking you'd won but hadn't!

I got an e-mail today from a comp I entered for a trip to Bolivia. In the subject line it had..
'HighLives Holidays - Bolivia Trip Winner.'
I was gobsmacked! Until i opened it and it read..
'Thanks you for entering our competition to win a holiday to Bolivia, with Lonely Planet Traveller. The winner has now been contacted.'
Oh, bummer!!
I'm laughing about it now.
Have you ever thought you had won, but hadn't?

I applied for 60 second make over. Did all the bits even the interview then got an email. Not the same but very close. Just for 10 seconds I was thinking about all the lovely new furniture.
Was gutted.
But hey if you do not enter you can never win, so keep trying there are people on the forum who have won loads and loads!Happiness, Health and Wealth in that order please!:A0 -
yep had this on numorous occasions, most annoying when it says in the subject line 'congratulations' 'winner of' etc etc...open the email and its not you. Whats even more annoying is when they go on to say Better Luck next time, you now have a chance of entering our next competition..blah blah.. You secretly grumble under your breath about inconsiderate the promoters are (well I do ) and as in most cases hit the delete button.0

Got same e.mail, not the first and it does make your heart race. Roll on the proper wins pretty please.0

I hate those kind of emails.
Who really cares if they've NOT won. We don't need to all be told we've lost.
They should only contact the winner.
I've had a couple that have 'congratulations competition winner' and then inside the email says 'who is.....someone else who isn't me!'
I have complained, letting the company know they shouldn't do that as it gets peoples hopes up for a second.
Emails like that are not needed.0 -
Yea these emails can be annoying although I do like to see them announce who actually won in an email rather than the comp ending and never hearing about it again.0

And we're not even going to TALK about the Boots Barcelona fiasco last year!!!
I managed to tell everyone at work as well :eek:Make £2019 in 2019 No 153 - £4517.17/£20190 -
I hate the emails that tell you you recently entered, didn't win, but cn buy for xx of price, eg Elite Serum, which sent another email today. I've asked her to unsubscribe me, if she doesn't, I'll sign her up for Readers Digest:D.“It was only a sunny smile, and little it cost in the giving, but like morning light it scattered the night and made the day worth living.”

I've had loads of those emails & they are so infuriating & so badly worded. I automatically assume its someone else when I see competition winner in my emails - then get a nice surprise if it actually is me when I open them up!0

I got that same Bolivia email and got the same heart stopping excitement as you when I read that I might be the winner!
It happened last week too when I got one for an Alabama holiday. It looked like I had won it in the title but when I read the email it was somebody else... grrr! I think the people who post them do it to deliberately rub it in our faces like ner ner ner ner look what you didn't win. :mad:0
