NPower duel fuel direct debit discount

Hi.

I switched to getting both electricity and gas from NPower partly to get the "£100 annual Direct Debit discount." This they said kicks in when I've been with them for both fuels for a year.

My year comes up shortly. I see from a predicted gas and electricity cost that the discount is something that comes off my bill. They don't send a cheque or anything like that.

How am I able to switch to another supplier if this £100 is only coming back to me over the next year?

They will send you a cheque if the your final bill contains a balance. Provided you do not switch earlier than twelve months after the later fuel started up you are entitled to the credit to your account.

If the computer messes up the calculations you can complain and receive an extra £20 for three minutes work.
  • If you ring them they can advise exactly what date the £100 discount will appear, it should show as a credit to your account. It is usually after you've made 12 DD payments (or 4 if you pay by quarterly DD) but best ring and check and get the rep to note it on your account in case it doesn't get applied due to a "system error".

I don't quite understand what you mean. If the final bill has a balance that means the op will owe npower money yes? In this case if the bill is greater than £100 then wouldn't npower just reduce the bill by the same amount rather than send a cheque?

My vocabulary may be failing me but I am pretty sure a balance can be negative or positive. Whether it is a cheque or demand that is sent will depend on if the final balance is in credit or in debit.

You are right Nada, it is just that I have never had a bill where I was in credit so it threw me for a while. Quite a while ago there were some warnings about npower holding people to ransom with this discount by not crediting it until the first bill following the anniversary. I am guessing that this is nothing to worry about then.
