I have just received a letter from Lewis debt recovery on behalf of Cl finance ltd, with a final demand for £1741.
I have no clue as to what it's for and can find it on either noddle, equifax or checkmyfile credit agencies.
It gives no indication to where its from and although received today, it demands payment or response by tomorrow.
I know not to call them but what can I do to find out what the hell it is or who from as quickly as possible?

Can they take this threatened further action whilst I'm disputing it or finding out what it's for?0

You probably have the same name as someone they are looking for, its called the scatter gun approach, they contact several people of the same name in hope that someone just pays up. Send the letter Fermi has suggested and wait for their response. Ignore everything else as if you don't owe the money, they will not get very far in court will they? Nothing much to worry about.0

I'm just panicking in case it's something from years ago that's not been paid off , and the fact that they say they are working on behalf of Cl finance ltd means nothing to me.
Do I sign the above letter or not?0 -

Do I sign the above letter or not?
No, never sign anything for debt collectors, they will use your signature and transpose it onto a credit agreement and say you signed it.
You do not have to do anything until they prove you owe the money. Complain to ombudsman if they continue to pursue you whilst ignoring your prove it letter.0 -
One last question
Do I put my name at the top of my address or not?
Just hope they don't issued court proceedings :-(0 -
Yes you put your name and address they already have that anyway if they are sending you letters. But at the bottom of the letter do something like this
Signed Electronincally
Your Name

Just handwrite it word for word and just dated under 'yours faithfully'
As printer picked today to bust :-(0 -
I would try and find someone to print it as the best situation, maybe go to the library to do it. otherwise as a last resort see below.
If you are handwriting, just print your name in block capitals.0
