I have to buy a replacement battery for my daughters laptop. It's an old Samsung R519. I've found one on Ebay for £14 or one on the Currys Partmaster site for £50. I'm a bit hesitant to go for the cheaper one (for safety reasons) but I don't want to pay £50 if I'm going to get the same quality??? Any advise welcome please

check the feedback on the ebay seller this will give a good idea of if they are listing authentic items - rather than a counterfeit product (many of thousands of feedback - so cant all be bad?)..
Cannot really think of a 3rd scenario...0 -
What about one of these http://http://www.amazon.co.uk/s/?ie=UTF8&keywords=samsung+battery+r519&!!!!!googhydr-21&index=aps&hvadid=34734267468&hvpos=1t2&hvexid=&hvnetw=g&hvrand=1505728906345843784&hvpone=&hvptwo=&hvqmt=b&hvdev=t&ref=pd_sl_3qctg6w1r_b (hope the link works looked a bit strange in the reply box)
Just check that the specs are correct as this was just a quick google from info you gave. I've also bought one from Duracell direct as the one I needed was a good price. Remember that google is your friend0 -

Can you buy direct from Samsung? There are so many fake batteries around and enough of those with partial capacities/overheating problems that it's not worth roulette.0

Thanks all for your help. I've found a genuine Samsung one... £125 ouch! I've also found a 'Lovato' branded one on Amazon for £35 which seems to have good reviews as does the £15 one that Oblivion found above. I'm leaning towards Amazon because of the reviews rather than Ebay:undecided ...or should I just get the kid a new laptop? :rotfl:0

Anyone know anything about Lovato chargers? Any good?0

I doubt they're related to lovato who make industrial switches, which makes them a no-name Chinese brand. They might be OK, it's a punt with no-names. Might be brilliant, might be reduced capacity, might short out and start smoking. OK, this last option is rather uncommon, but is more likely with unofficial/no-name ones than the official vendor ones!
It's probably OK, maybe reduced capacity or lower quality but will probably do the job and not cause problems.0 -
I'm running my laptop on an eBay cheap replacement laptop and it's not set my house on fire. Although lets be honest, they probably come out of the same factory as the branded ones.0

I've also heard that 5 out 6 people who pull the trigger in a game of Russian roulette usually suffer nothing more serious than cramp in their finger.
I still don't think I'd fancy giving it a go though.
Many people do indeed buy fake and counterfeit batteries, chargers etc and never have a problem but this doesn't detract from the fact that when chargers and batteries do catch fire, it is far less likely to be a genuine one that is to blame.0 -
This website claims to have the original Samsung part for £45.

I've never used them myself though, but saw them recommended somewhere (possibly on MSE?)0
