Hi, my wife and I have decided to separate after 7 years marriage and I am worried about the financial situation.
Our financial situation is as follows:
We are directors and shareholders of a company (1). We both receive a small salary and then dividends. Last year we both earned approx. £47k each from this business. My wife does not do much at the business and probably works about 2-3 hours a week due to looking after the kids. I also own another company that I own with another director (company 2). This company has been paying dividends to company 1 and my wife and I take no income from company 2.
I have moved out of the house (which is in my name and I am the sole name on the mortgage).
My wifes salary is going to be £641pm plus £400 from a lodger and money from me for her and the kids.
Can anyone tell me if she is entitled to any benefits please and what they might be. We have looked at the tax credit form and it asks for rent being paid or mortgage and because the mortgage is in my name only obviously I am paying it?
Thanks in advance

Hope not. Looks like you guys have been doing alright in the past year. Why should I as a tax payer fund your wife's income when you can pay child support if she can't work?0
